Myer Fashion Launch SS15: Runway Wrap-Up

Spring Summer 15 has well and truly arrived here at Myer with our Fashion launch heating up the runway at Sydney’s Carriageworks last Thursday. Face of Myer Jen Hawkins sizzled as she opened the show in a form-fitting Alex Perry lace dress.

The 90 Days of Summer theme saw models transformed into ethereal beauties, hair quaffed in soft pastel shades of powder blue, fairy floss pink and minted green, their iridescent skin shimmering under the lights. The men also heated up the runway with slicked hair & glistening skin. Extravagant metal palm leaves dangled over the silver runway while models walked the catwalk in some of our most exciting new looks from designers including by johnny, White Suede and M.J. Bale, all new to Myer this season.

Soft pastels, vibrant prints and white-on-white were key trends for women, while retro influences, smart contemporary suiting and relaxed denim led the way for men this summer.
Closing the show, a sea of white clad models engulfed the runway to sound of Enya’s ‘Orinoco Flow (Sail Away)’, before being joined by Myer Ambassadors Kris Smith and Kate Peck, Nicole Trunfio (walking exclusively for Little Joe Woman) and Face of Myer Jen Hawkins, who closed the show in a white Alex Perry gown.

So, what will we be wearing this summer?  Keep reading for our trend update, giving you all the inside tips you need to know for this coming season’s hottest looks!

Pastels

Softening the colour spectrum, many designers adopted pastel hues for summer, which was accentuated perfectly by the models’ candy-coloured hair quiffs. We saw Fleur Wood’s soft fabrics create floaty & dreamlike silhouettes, while by johnny juxtaposed his sorbet palette with constructed geometric shapes, high slits and bold cuts. Karen Walker lightened her theme of Suffragettes by introducing pale blue and soft ivories to her prints, allowing her statement pieces to really do the talking. Ideal for creating a more feminine & girly look, we couldn’t be happier to see the pastel trend come through just in time for the new season, only this time round it’s got edge – opt for structure in shape and don’t be afraid to embrace a full pastel colour from top to toe, a-la Yeojin Bae, below. Even the boys will be lightening their look, with Brent Wilson and Arthur Galan AG both going for lighter and pastel hues for their suiting this season.

Rich Prints & Vibrant Colours

This season’s print has a vintage undertone with a deeper, richer colour palette. Jayson Brundson, inspired by the vibrancy of Rio, opted for shimmering embroidered fabrics in glitzy metallic tones for his collection, while Cue called on warm sunset hues of orange, yellow and red to bring their vintage floral prints to life. Even those designers who passed on prints, couldn’t keep away from vibrant colours for summer, with both Alex Perry and Aurelio Costarella presenting two very different and equally beautiful takes on colour blocking. Perry kept it form fitted and textural with lace and embroidery, while Costarella worked with silks for a more fluid silhouette, perfect for his airy dresses and playsuits. Even Toni Maticevski couldn’t help himself, making the rare step away from neutrals, adopting a vivid neon orange to colour a few creations – a very telling sign of the change in season. So with Spring Racing season just around the corner, we’re already starting to imagine our outfits and it’s looking like being a vibrant carnival, full of colour and print.

White on White

Who doesn’t love a white moment?! You can imagine our excitement when we started to see white on white hitting the Myer SS15 runway. From boho inspired ivory lace to textured leathers and mismatched fabrics, we saw all kinds of white looks which inspired us to keep things simple this summer. Focusing on simplicity, we saw clean & soft lines with Búl, while Maticevski was all about flat whites and fluid structure in silhouettes that accentuate the female form. White Suede maintained their graphic sports inspired cuts, splicing white dresses and skirts with tonal ivories in varying fabrics, while Morrison kept it simple with beautiful, easy-wear dresses in white silks.

If all white seems a bit daunting, try adding some accessories; a coloured/printed scarf or even jacket can be a great way to breakup the whiteout and don’t forget, beautifully bronzed skin is always a winner when wearing white.
