Spring Cleaning Made Simple

Aside from shedding the layers and slipping on sandals, there’s something about spring that makes us want to clean, de-clutter, ditch the old and bring in the new. Agree? If, however, the thought of cleaning makes you want to go back to bed, then these tips are sure to motivate you!

Update your cleaning equipment: Nothing will put you off cleaning more than knowing your equipment is old, broken and not working. So get yourself some new cleaning weapons and throw out all the old mops, rags and half-empty cleaners. This will instantly make the idea of cleaning seem a lot more enjoyable.

Work in zones: Don’t try and spring clean the whole house in one afternoon – separate out your rooms and tackle them one at a time so you don’t feel overwhelmed. Doing this will also give you that feeling of achievement after each room, giving you the motivation to keep going.

Make lists: When tackling a full spring clean of your home organisation is key, so make lists of what you need to do for each room and who’s doing what. This will make the tasks seems less daunting, and crossing items off the list is oh so satisfying!

Involve the whole house: Regardless of who or how many people you live with, get them involved with your spring cleaning mission. It will help give them ownership of the tasks that need to be done, and will encourage them to maintain their fresh spring space.

Be ruthless: Deciding what to keep and what to get rid of can sometimes be a bit tricky, particularly for those of us who like to hold on to things ‘just in case‘. But it’s time to let go, spring cleaning is all about fresh new beginnings (and making space for all those new season purchases!).

Reward yourself at the end: Once you’ve finished your spring clean, thank yourself with a little something special. Maybe it’s that new bedspread you’ve had your eye on or maybe it’s just spending the rest of the afternoon on the couch with magazines and a glass of red. Either way, give yourself a pat on the back for all your hard work, then sit back, relax and enjoy your new clean space!
