There’s a time and a place for relaxed, easy glamour but the Spring Racing Carnival is definitely not one of them. If there was ever an excuse to show off your most polished, put-together look, this is it. If you’re anything like us though, you tend to leave things to the last minute, which is why over the next few weeks we’ll be posting a series of easy guides to help you get every little thing sorted in plenty of time.
So to kick off your carnival prep, here are some things you can start to think about now, even if you haven’t found the dream dress yet…
If you’re going to several race days, why not pick out pieces you can wear more than once? A nude pump or neutral clutch bag will work equally well with Derby Day’s monochrome dress code as it will with bright florals on Oaks Day. And what about things to keep you comfortable on the day like shape wear and party feet? Ticking things like this off your checklist now means no last minute scramble to pick up those little bits and pieces you wish you’d sorted out earlier.
The same goes for beauty. Now’s the perfect time to stock up on those special beauty items you might not use every day but will need for the races, like primer, false eyelashes or a bold lipstick and liner. And don’t forget a BB cream with SPF since you’ll be spending all day in the sun. Getting your makeup essentials sorted early gives you plenty of time to practice the perfect cat’s eye flick or vintage hairstyle you’ve been wanting to try out. There’s nothing worse than getting flustered on the day and not feeling confident enough to pull off your gorgeous new look. After all, just because getting ready for the races takes a lot of work doesn’t mean it should show!
