Midi Skirt Masterclass

The midi is the skirt of the season, and your summer staple piece – it will take you from day to night to weekend brunch in the blink of an eye. While its styling possibilities are endless, the midi can be a wee bit tricky to weave into your daily outfit rotation, so we’ve enlisted the help of Myer Melbourne’s personal shopper and stylist, Cat Morrison, who took us through a few different ways to wear the midi skirt.

Workwear doesn’t need to be boring, and embracing a layered midi skirt is a great way to add a little interest to your regular 9-5 look. This Ellery flute midi skirt is the perfect addition to your skirt collection with its layered panels that compliment and highlight curves. Pair back with this season’s kitten heel and a more streamlined structured top in a bold colour. While a perfect piece for work, this statement skirt will also have you covered for more formal occasions and parties too.

Weekends are about easy and effortless dressing so throw on your midi with a basic tee or singlet and go with a sneaker to keep your look comfy and cool. This cream Jayson Brundson Black Label midi is ultra versatile and because it’s a relaxed A-line it sits nicely from the waist and hips down as opposed to puffing out – a very flattering shape for most body types.  It’s easy to wear casually with a sneaker or slide but team it up with a pump and it’s the ultimate work skirt. A true summer staple.

With party season now in full swing, the midi will be your new best friend. Pair a slimline pencil midi skirt with flowing silk tops or keep it more sports inspired with fitted racer back or halter styles. Colour-wise, anything goes after 5 but remember white is to summer what black is to winter so don’t be afraid to do a full white look. Throw in a bit of colour with shoes and accessories and you’re set. This Cue pencil skirt is an ideal basic which will also fit perfectly into your work wardrobe.
