How To: Shop the Boxing Day Sales

In a little less than 24 hours the Myer Stocktake Sale will be in full swing, so you’ll need to get your game face on! Are you ready? If not, don’t worry – just follow these simple tips and you’ll be ready for the Boxing Day sales in no time.

what to wear
While sale shopping may not strike you as an occasion requiring a carefully planned outfit, comfort is key and it most certainly pays to plan ahead! Go with easy-wear pieces like jeans and tees – not only are they comfortable options, but they’re also great basics to try on other clothes with. In terms of footwear, go for a pair of slides or thongs so you can quickly which can easily slip on and off when trying things on.

plan your mission
Before you hit the shops, write a list or create a mental plan of attack. Know exactly what you’re aiming to get so you can prioritise where to be when to make sure you don’t miss anything on your list. Big ticket items in the home and electrical departments tend to be hot property on Boxing Day, so try and get to these areas first. Lingerie and women’s shoes are also areas you’ll want to hit early, as that’s where the crowds flock to. Savvy shoppers will want to head straight to the Christmas Shop to stock up on Christmas trim items which are usually heavily marked down come Boxing Day.

make quick decisions
Boxing Day is not the day to ‘um’ and ‘ah’ about a purchase; no one wants to be that person holding up the line for the fitting rooms! Make quick decisions, trust your instincts and remember that Myer has a 30 day returns policy on most items so you’ve got time to ‘um’ and ‘ah’ at home. Allocating yourself a budget for the day is also a great way to help make decisions, as once you’ve hit your limit it’s time to stop!

measure up
If you’re after furniture or large home items, make sure you measure your spaces at home before you hit the shops so you know what will and won’t fit – there’s nothing worse than getting your bargain couch home only to realise it won’t fit through the front door! It’s also a good idea to take some photos of your rooms so you can refer to them when trying to decide if certain pieces will work in your spaces.

get in early
The early bird gets the best bargains, so do your research and look up our store trading hours to see when your favourite store opens, then plan to be there as early as you possibly can! It also pays to look up where you can park and how much it costs before you set off so you’re not driving around aimlessly first thing Boxing Day morning.

Myer Melbourne and Myer Sydney City both open at 5am on Boxing Day, and we’ll be rewarding the first 500 people to arrive at each store on Boxing Day with Gold Shopping Tickets which have once in a lifetime bargains!

come prepared
If you’re going to do the super early start, bring along a few muesli bars and a bottle of water to keep you energised for the first few hectic hours. By 9am the cafes will start to open, so make sure you schedule 15 minutes to sit down and grab that much needed caffiene hit to keep you going for the rest of the day!
