With celebrity fans falling over themselves to wear his designs, Toni Maticevski has developed a strong signature style of draping and folding in his pieces, creating beautiful new looks in every collection he presents. This season, the modern world inspired Maticevski to experiment with new fabrics and new ways of creating strong structure. We had a chat with Toni to find out more…
Myer: Where did you take your inspiration from this season?
Toni Maticevski: It was about looking at how robots and a mechanical world would interpret nature.
M: What are the core elements of your brand?
TM: Maticevski is all about a clean type of modern beauty.
M: What themes and techniques have you featured this season?
TM: There are a lot of soft pleat volumes and boxy shapes which blouse and fall around the body. Making the silhouette play on classic shapes. I have also played with layering sheer grids together.
M: If you had to choose just one, which item would you select as your must-have piece from your collection?
TM: There are too many! I love the beautiful pencil skirt in the campaign, I love the textures of the meshes and grid fabrics. They feel modern and have an ease of wearability. I do love the lime Transformation gown though, it’s about mixing up the idea of evening to feel sporty and not stuffy.
M: Could you tell us what you are in love with at the moment?
TM: Right now I am loving the idea of a holiday… I don’t know when it will be, but I’m loving the idea of it!!
