A new season has arrived at Myer, and with it comes fabulous new trends, must-have pieces and of course an unforgettable runway show.
Australia’s most fashionable descended on Melbourne and made their way along the black carpet in Bourke Street Mall before heading upstairs to Mural Hall. The minimal white set, designed by the creative geniuses at Gloss Creative, featured mirrored vertical ‘blades’ which shifted from black to white and a sleek mirrored runway, the perfect backdrop for our Autumn Winter Collection.
From futuristic takes on classic monochrome to throwbacks to decades past, we saw plenty of wishlist-worthy pieces to take us from now through winter and beyond.
Face of Myer Jennifer Hawkins opened the show in a white suit and silver top by Maticevski and a grey felt Nerida Winter hat. Myer Ambassador Kate Peck’s first runway look was also a pants-suit – an Ellery ensemble in the most perfect shade of green with a navy jacket. Both looks hinted at the 70s styling to follow.
Felt hats, flares and florals featured prominently in the show, as stylist Thelma McQuillan took us back to the 70s with looks from Karen Walker, Cue, Morrison and Kate Sylvester. Kate Peck looked almost unrecognizable in a huge faux fur coat and hip-hugging flared trousers, with long blonde hair coming out from under a floppy black hat.
The colour palette varied from designer to designer, leaving us keen to experiment with monochromatic looks and bold pops of colour this season. Maticevski, by johnny and Wayne Cooper all utilized black, white and grey in varying textures and patterns, while Yeojin Bae, Arthur Galan and White Suede favoured the other end of the colour spectrum, featuring bright block colours. The show ended with a finale full of Alex Perry lace creations, some black and white, some bright, all fabulous. Bring on the cooler months!
