Getting Race Day Ready with Rachael Finch

The Autumn Racing season is upon us which means it’s time to start getting race day ready once again! We sat down with Myer Ambassador Rachael Finch on set at our Autumn Racing campaign shoot to find out her tips for prepping for day at the races.

‘Start with the piece that gives you inspiration’
If you have an amazing piece, like a hat or a shoe that you just love and want to wear, Rachael suggests taking inspiration from that one piece and then working the rest of your look around it.

‘Go for a headpiece that is comfortable to wear’
A seasoned racegoer, Rachael certainly understands the importance of being comfortable in your attire on a raceday. There’s nothing worse than having the worry of a headpiece that’s digging in or having to constantly hold down a hat that keeps flying off in the wind, so when it comes to headwear make sure it’s comfortable and practical as well as fabulous.

‘A wide brimmed fedora has that perfect 70’s vibe for Autumn’
In case you hadn’t noticed, the seventies are back this season in a big way, so why not bring a little of the boho era into your Autumn Racing look by opting for an oversized wide brim fedora? Rachael loves the ease of this style of hat and recommends keeping your hair loose and wavy underneath for a less ‘finished’ look.

Simplicity is key’
Keeping it simple is Rachael’s number one styling tip for race day dressing, and she believes by adopting this philosophy it’s almost impossible to go wrong. Monochrome is always a great simple option for any race day, but why not try a tonal look by mixing pieces in different shades of the same colour. It makes for a really effective look and if you feel like it, add a pop of colour in the lip to brighten up your outfit.

Carry only what you really need in your bag’
Rachael recommends only packing the bare basics into your handbag so you’re not stuck carrying a heavy bag around all day unnecessarily. The essentials Rachael carries with her on a race day are lip balm, blotting paper, just a little bit of money and some snacks like nuts, because you never know what sort of food options may or may not be available at the track.

  1. I went to Myer northland on Saturday 7th March. 2015. I waited at the watch counter for a sales assistant, she was serving a customer. Another assistant came in after with a client and was processing her order. She finished that transaction then instead of serving me ( already waited 5 mins at this stage) she served a lady who just walked up to the counter. I left without trying on the watch that had 20per cent off. I went to first level to look at clothes instead, whilst browsing I heard another customer yelling at the staff that there was no one on the floor to assist her with sizes etc. overall I was angry and disappointed with my shopping. There obviously was not enough staff to cope with super Saturday.

    • Hi Ann, we’re really sorry to hear about your experience in store on Saturday. If you would like to contact our customer service center on 1800 811 611 and provide some more information, we can pass the feedback onto the Store Manager and investigate further. Many thanks, have a great afternoon!
