Some of Melbourne’s most glamorous women descended on Flemington this afternoon for a delicious three-course lunch to celebrate the launch of the Autumn Racing season and get a first look at some of our amazing new season racewear trends.
Myer Ambassador Kris Smith arrived in a grey Dom Bagnato suit, while Myer Ambassador Lauren Phillips looked beautiful as always in a fitted black Yeojin Bae dress and stunning gold headpiece by Kerrie Stanley. Guests enjoyed an incredible fashion-inspired menu created by Union Dining’s Nicky Reimer and a stunning runway show full of inspiration for the autumn racing season ahead.
In winter rich tones of burgundy, rust and navy, preppy styling emerged with conservative clean-cut tunics and A-line skirts paired with polished brogues, a new shoe for the races (genius!). The darker colours continued with L Lisa Ho mixing fitted knits with longer leather skirts and ankle boots for a cooler racewear look. Bright colours were still ever present with Arthur Galan, Alex Perry and by johnny all making use of vibrant blocks of colour; a refreshing change from the blacks, blues and greys we tend to associate with the drop in temperature.
When autumn hits, headwear takes its cue from the weather with felt hats and fedoras in blacks and greys finding their place, while pops of unexpected seventies-inspired turquoise and rust also made an appearance. Veiled headpieces and sculptural shapes were also popular in this seasons gold and the perennial black, while dainty metals are a great option for a more understated look.
For the men, it’s all about mix and matching this season by experimenting with textured fabrics and warm tones. On the runway, dove grey jackets were worn over plaid shirts with burgundy trousers while navy and grey suits were balanced with light blue shirts and purple or green accents. For more relaxed racewear, trench coats and sports style jackets have emerged as great toppers for the men this season while the brown or tan shoe is still the men’s must-have shoe for Autumn.
With so much beautiful fashion to choose from, we can’t wait to start getting our race day looks ready! If you still need some more inspiration, then have a look at our Autumn Racing Edit online here.
