Like so many women, fashion blogger Nadia Bartel has had a long term love affair with denim, so it made perfect sense to have her host our Ultimate Denim Day at Myer Melbourne a few weeks backs. We took some time out with Nadia to talk favourite pieces, go-to styles and denim trends (including one she hopes won’t ever come back…).
Myer: What was your first pair of jeans?
Nadia Bartel: I have looked back at photos and mum would always dress me in double denim when I was growing up. I had my little acid wash denim skirt and denim jacket going on when I was five years old. I bought my first pair of denim pedal pushers when I was about 12 years old and I remember living in them!
M: Which denim piece do you currently have on high rotation?
NB: At the moment, it’s all about white denim in my books. I can’t get enough of it. Skinny, rips or boyfriend, any style goes. I love that white works with so many other items in my wardrobe; it’s so fresh. Coming into autumn and winter it also a favourite as it pairs with grey and black perfectly.
M: What’s a denim trend you hope never comes back?
NB: Tencel denim would be one denim trend that I never want to see again. I wore these all the time in my teens and looking back at photos; I didn’t realise how wrong they were.
M: What’s your preferred wash of denim?
NB: That would have to be a tie between white and black wash denim.
M: Skinny jeans or boyfriend jeans?
NB: I would have to say skinny, even though I love a good pair of slouchy boyfriend jeans. I can’t look past the versatility of a cool pair of skinnys. You can wear them during the day with flat boots, then straight out for a night with the girls teamed with pair of strappy heels. They are always in fashion, and suit almost every body shape.
M: Apart from jeans, how else do you wear your denim?
NB: I love wearing denim shirts. An oversized denim shirt is one of my favourite staples. I roll up the sleeves and pair it with my white jeans for an easy double denim look or under a blazer and with some black pants for a dressier look.
M: What denim trend will you be wearing this Autumn Winter season?
NB: I am going to give grey denim a go and I’ve noticed lots of my favourite denim brands coming out with new styles and cuts in a grey wash so I think it is going to be a key look this season.
