The Shoes You Need This Winter

As winter beckons and we tuck our sandals and slides away for another season, it’s time to thinking about a new set of high rotation shoes that not only look good, but will keep us toasty warm all season long. These are the styles you need to know about this season.

The perennial autumn winter staple shoe, boots require no justification for a seasonal update. This season we’re seeing an influx of ankle boots, which is ideal given how well they work with all your wardrobe favourites. Block heels are great for pounding the pavement during the day as they provide much needed comfort, while a stiletto peep-toe is a great way to toughen up a feminine evening look.

Aside from the standard black ankle boot, we’re also loving styles with a little something extra – think bold prints, zip detailing and edgy hardware. Don’t underestimate the power of the little details and do not be afraid of trying something a little different this winter!

boy styling

Take your cue from the boys this season and add brogues, oxfords and loafers to your collection of flats. These masculine styles add attitude to an otherwise preppy 9 to 5 look, and also work well with your more casual weekend looks. To instantly update your work look, try a pair of brogues with your pant suit, or a some lace-up derbies with a chunky knit and culottes. On your days off, loafers worn with a cuffed boyfriend jean and white tee is effortless, model-off-duty perfection.

Introducing sneakers to your everyday outfits is no new concept, however this winter the humble sneaker has become little slicker and a lot more fun. We love a printed sneaker for that point of difference and to add some interest to an all grey or black or white tonal ensemble. The ‘smart’ sneaker is also trending this season, with quilted panels and clean round toe styles designed to add a casual element to a sophisticated and more dressed up look. The sneaker is arguably the most comfortable shoe so we say embrace the trend while it lasts!

Heels are obviously a year round staple shoe, but the shift into winter means we’re looking to more closed toe and weather-appropriate styles. Black pumps need no explanation given they are the ultimate wardrobe staple, but pointed styles in general are definitely the key shape to look out for this season. Add some colour to your winter shoe collection with some bright prints in this eternally sophisticated style. Wear back with skinny jeans for a cooler look or pair with a little black dress for something more classic and feminine.
