We love winter because it means hot chocolates, comfort food and nights spent rugged up on the couch, but unfortunately winter also means harsh conditions for your skin. The crisp cold air and strong gusty winds are just a few of the environmental factors that will leave your skin dehydrated, tight and just plain dull looking. Fortunately, there are a few things you can do and products you can use to help save your skin this winter.
Look after your lips
Lip balm should be a staple in every woman’s handbag not just in winter but right throughout the year. Winter is renowned for being super tough on lips with windburn being a painful and sometimes unavoidable result of the cool air. Keep your lips soft and perfectly kissable by applying a good quality lip balm or treatment everyday to avoid cracking & dryness.
You’ve probably heard this a thousand times before but we’ll say it one more time: drink plenty of water! Nothing will help the health and appearance of your skin like water will, so be sure to carry a drink bottle filled with fresh water, everywhere you go. Aim for a minimum of one litre a day and don’t forget green and herbal teas can also be a great way to keep your hydration levels up too.
A Face Mask
Give your skin that extra dose of tender love and care during winter with a weekly face mask. Depending on your skin type, we recommend using a mask that focuses on hydrating and repairing the skin. If you find your skin seems to lack its usual glow during winter, using a mask regularly will help renew the skin cells and promote a brighter, more healthy looking complexion (which is exactly the look we’re going for!).
Slip Slop Slap
You’re probably very familiar with slip slop slapping in summer but what you may not know is that the sun’s UV rays can be just as strong during winter in even the thickest cloud cover. As such, using sunscreen under your makeup everyday is a must if you want avoid the early onset of wrinkles! If, however, you’re not keen on adding another product to your morning beauty routine then simply swap out your existing foundation for one with a built in SPF.
Don’t forget your feet
In summer your feet are on display much more often which reminds you to take care of them, however in winter it can sometimes be a case of ‘out of sight, out of mind’. Avoid dry scary feet at the end of winter by giving yourself a foot spa every week. Throw is some luscious smelling bath salts, roll your pants up and sit back and relax while the foot spa does the rest.
