Zanita Whittington The Finders Myer

Spring Trend: In Full Bloom curated by Zanita Whittington

Spring is my favourite time of year. We spend the winter wrapped in greys and knits, head to toe black – and then finally the weather changes and style comes to full bloom. Now’s the time to celebrate dressing up, florals and colour, skirts and silk and fun, energetic style.

Floral prints are the fashion sounding call for the season change. This season, we’re going for bold, maximalist, tropical themes – nothing too sugary sweet – styled up with a bit of attitude.

The 70’s is one recurring theme and a personal favourite of mine, so prints with dark contrast details paired with tan or brown accessories – like the bucket bag I styled with the Leona Edmiston look – can be great for everyday. The theme also applies with proportions, with a midi length being not only easy to wear, but right on trend.

Another theme we’ve seen for a few seasons that doesn’t seem to be going anywhere is contrasting prints. I love this thoughtful approach to styling, so bold that accessories can be kept to an effortless minimum. The key to contrasted prints is balancing complementary tones – I’ve matched a pastel and graphic floral print with a striking black and white stripe. It just works!

A utility jacket is a must have for spring, in khaki, tan or olive tones; it’s a wardrobe staple that will breathe new life into tropical and bold prints and a winning combination with vibrant hues, toning down any ‘sweetness’ and giving more clout to your total look.

So often with spring we opt for subdued elegance, but this season don’t be afraid to go for ‘more is more’  and pair two bright colours together for striking effect. Nothing spells confidence better than the right vivid combination of colours.
