Chronicles of Her Myer

Spring Trend: Jetset curated by Carmen Hamilton

Whether you’re headed to Santorini or sitting at your desk daydreaming of the Amalfi Coastline, trade your everyday wardrobe of black and grey for nautical stripes, crisp whites and a pop of colour. Relaxed shapes and silhouettes will complement your mood while a touch of metallic here and there sets off your holiday glow… Are we there yet?

The in-between seasons are always the best; autumn (when you’re ready to rug-up in big coats, boots and beanies), and spring (when you’re ready to shed all those layers and embrace a lighter, brighter colour palette). Spring feels fresh. It’s the start of something new. It’s exciting. And it always gets me day-dreaming about where my next sun-filled escape will be. But when ‘real life’ calls, and you realise that jet-setting off to an exotic location may just be exactly that – a dream – the next best thing is dressing like you’re on vacay. That means lighter fabrics, relaxed silhouettes, lots of white and pops of colour here and there to embrace the change of seasons. Trust me, after a long winter in a uniform of black on black on black, it feels good.

Here are 4 rules everyone can apply to their wardrobe for spring (because if you can’t go to Santorini, at least this will make you feel like you’re there).

Stripes are always a good idea
Not just in spring, not just in summer. Stripes are your friend all year round. Navy and white is a safe bet, but red and white also feels super fresh. You can mix them back with denim and pretty much every block colour. The world is your oyster.

It’s ok to wear colour
If you’re going to do it, now is the time. You can still keep the rest of your outfit fairly neutral, but introducing a pop of red or yellow will lift your entire look (and your mood).

White wins
Your skin finally gets to see the sun again in spring, and nothing will set off your new-found glow like crisp white. Wear it head-to-toe or introduce it with a pair of white canvas Converse. Then tie it all together with a bold red lip for instant Parisian chic. Easy.

Relax to the max
Leave the heavy, structured pieces to the cooler months. Spring is all about carefree silhouettes like wide-leg pants, loose-fitting dresses and relaxed shirting. You can forget the complicated layering of winter – spring is meant to be easy. That’s it, really. All you need is a few new additions and you’re pretty much in Capri.

Bon voyage!
