Myer: How did you start out in the fashion industry?
Roland Mouret: I started modelling at 25. My first show was with Emporio Armani in Milan.

M: Who were you influenced by as a young designer while growing up?
RM: Azzedine Alaïa – I admire his integrity. He has led his career without ever compromising his principles.

M: Who is the Roland Mouret woman?
RM: She is constantly on the move, and requires a wardrobe to take her from place to place. The reason separates are so important in my collections is that it allows for her to interpret and reinterpret her look without compromising her style.

M: Tell us about the inspiration behind the new collection?
RM: I am always trying to open new doors for myself, especially in how to fold fabrics. Bringing new textures and fabrics into the mix helps me develop new finishing techniques. But at the end of the day, it has to look effortless. The woman will then amplify and step the look up with her personality.

M: Do you have a current muse or tell us who inspires you today?
RM: I don’t use ‘muses’, but rather for me, draping directly onto the female form is the only way to fully understand the potential of the silhouette. It gives the design movement, which is very important when designing for the modern women.
