Dedicated to creating cool, classic and wearable luxury, designer Georgia Currie’s label Georgia Alice has swiftly become highly sought after amongst the fashion elite. Arriving at Myer in late February, Georgia Alice is for the rule breakers and the dreamers…
Three years ago, designer Georgia Alice Currie won the Westpac Young Designer of the Year Award. Since then, the designer has worked to grow her label and solidify her design perspective. With an emphasis on negotiating the line between menswear and womenswear, Georgia Alice is fast becoming recognized for its strong silhouettes and man-style aesthetic.
M: How did you initially develop the idea for your own label?
GC: I was at fashion school, and I had ideas in my head that I wanted to make into a reality… and I was encouraged to follow my own path, so boom GA was created. I started the label because I felt like I had something to say and something to create for women. It was born out of an idea of what I felt every woman needs in
M: What is your focus as a designer, for your brand?
GC: To create clothing for gritty, wild women who prefer to dress simply with additional little sparks. The start of every collection comes from building on the previous collection — pushing and pulling at existing silhouettes. I don’t like to work with a stringent theme, there are always factors that influence the direction of each range
M: Tell us a little about the new collection?
GC: MOTO, is inspired by a film I watched called Partisan, I am obsessed with cults and this film was a romantic, dark, adventurous pool of magic. Beautifully shot and characters with fire. That was the starting point. I went for the fastest motorbike ride along sand dunes beside the ocean on New Zealands west coast and I cant quite explain the feeling but it rocked me.. and I wanted to try and capture it.
M: What inspires your designs? Do you have a muse?
GC: I have muses that change seasonally depending on my mood. At the moment I am super into Mica Arganaraz, Giorgia Tordini, Lea Seydoux…
M: What is the one must-have piece from the current collection?
GC: The balloon shirt – its poofy like a cloud and can be worn with pretty much anything. Its a happy shirt.
Georgia Alice will be available in Myer Melbourne City, Sydney City and online at myer.com.au from late February.
