Rugby League Superstar Billy Slater is passionate about his game. But there’s nothing he loves more than his two kids, Tyla and Jake. We spoke with Billy about what being a dad means to him, how he likes to spend time with his family, and what’s on his wish list this Father’s Day.
M: What does being a Dad mean to you?
Billy Slater: You put in hours of preparation on the Rugby League field but nothing can prepare you for being a dad. It’s the best thing that’s happened to me and just keeps getting better. Tyla & Jake make me laugh, I just love hanging out with them. And having them look up to me is the most special feeling. Honestly, watching my kids grow and develop is the greatest game in the world.
Myer: How do you like to spend Fathers Day?
Billy Slater: Anything with my family.
M: What’s on your wish list for Father’s Day this year?
BS: I always receive a couple of home-made Father’s Day cards from my children. I’m looking forward to getting them this year.
M: Tell us your best ‘Dad’ joke?
BS: “What time did the man go to the dentist? Tooth hurt-y”
M: What do your kids love doing most with you?
BS: Definitely goofing around the house.
M: What do your kids love most about you?
BS: Probably just being fun and mucking around with them. Sometimes I think I’m their age.
M: Tell us something your Dad taught you?
BS: Dad always said “while you’re talking, you’re not learning”.
M: Tell us about one of your most memorable moments with your kids and family?
BS: We recently took a trip to the snow. It was the first time the kids actually skied. Everyone had a great time.
