Heading to more than one raceday and don’t want to break the bank? We’ve got you sorted with three different looks created from one suit. Meet this season’s most versatile colour, Grey…
LEFT: Italia Collezioni suit jacket & pants, Blaq slimfit shirt, Ben Sherman tie, Brooksfield pocket square.
RIGHT: Jeff Banks Ivy League suit jacket & pants, Jeff Banks business shirt, tie, pocket square available in selected stores.
If you’re headed to Derby Day, the traditional dress code stipulates a colour-free zone, with black, white and grey the hues of the day. You won’t put a foot wrong pairing your grey suit with a white shirt, black tie, belt and shoes. For extra trackside flair, choose a knitted tie or a patterned pocket square and socks in keeping with the monochrome theme. Plus, when the racing season is over, this look can easily transition into your 9-5 wardrobe.
For the guys who love nothing more than standing out, grey is an easy shade to combine with bright colours and bold patterns. Choose a plain shirt in a lighter shade and let your accessories do the talking. Avoid a tie and pocket square in identical patterns – this can look too contrived. Instead, find a pocket square that (however slight) makes a colour reference back to your tie and don’t be afraid of bold geometric or paisley designs – only a hint of this will be showing.
Leave the pants in the wardrobe and instead pair your grey blazer with tailored chinos. Choose a colour or shade that’s darker or lighter than your jacket so to create a nice contrast. A plain shirt and standout accessories work best with this look, so think colour, texture, print and patterns. Add a fun sock, polish your brogues and you’re ready to go!
