The headpiece, the shoes, the bag or the dress… where do you start when planning your look for the races? We love to start with that special piece that makes our heart sing, then arrange the rest of our sure-to-be-amazing outfit around that. If you need a point in the right sartorial direction, then these are the trends to get on to the Autumn Racing Season!

If there is ever a time to embrace a more classic and conservative look it’s at the races, and this season we’re loving feminine influences and longer hemlines. A dress that drops below the knee and falls no further than mid-calf is our pick for an elegant ladylike look. Keep it fresh and add some edge by choosing a dress with textural fabrics or even a racer cut neckline and go for bold accessories to offset the more traditional silhouette of your look.
Strong shapes and structured silhouettes are a great alternative to the more obviously feminine and traditional racewear looks this season. If the shape of your outfit is structured, keep prints to a minimum and opt for neutral tones and monochrome colour ways. Experiment with interesting layering pieces that cut a sharp line in your look, bold shapes that pull in the waist and square shouldered tops worn back with skirts slashed on the angle. Mesh cut-outs work well with these silhouettes for a more sports-inspired vibe. Keep the strength in the look with solid with a structured headpiece and killer heels, and avoid anything too fussy or dainty.

Perpetually race day appropriate, print dresses are a no brainer! Whether it be big and bold abstract prints or soft and dreamy florals, take your cue from this season’s seventies-inspired prints and work back with matching accessories like an oversized felt fedora. If a hat’s not really your thing, try matching small headpieces with light veiling for a more subtle statement.
