The Myer Animated Christmas windows are one of the most iconic aspects of Christmas in the City of Melbourne, attracting an estimated 1.2 million visitors every year. On Saturday we were thrilled to unveil our 59th Animated Christmas Windows which tell the story of ‘Santa Claus and the Three Bears’.
Our beautiful Myer Ambassador Lauren Phillips hosted the morning and the Salvation Army Brass Band started proceedings with some of our all-time favourite Christmas Carols. Soon after the crowds were treated to a special appearance by The Voice Australia 2013 winner Harrison Craig, who performed his rendition of ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ from the 2014 Myer Spirit of Christmas CD.
Excitement began to build as Bourke Street Mall was transformed into a winter wonderland with an impressive snow show spectacular that saw artificial snow stream down from the Myer Melbourne awnings on to a delighted crowd. With the promise of Santa’s arrival nearing closer, children in the crowd were barely able to control their excitement, curiously wondering where he might come from. Suddenly the sound of toy drummers could be heard and the Myer Santaland train was seen making its way down the Bourke Street Mall with Face of Myer Jennifer Hawkins and Santa Claus on board. The crowd erupted with excitement before Jennifer helped Santa unveil the magnificent new Animated Christmas Windows.
Based on the delightful children’s book ‘Santa Claus and the Three Bears’ by Maria Modugno, the creation of the windows involved over 40 talented artisans who applied their specific skills and trades for a 7-month production period, clocking up over 17,000 hours of labour, creating fantasy from nothing more than raw materials!
In addition to the windows, we were also excited to launch the Myer Christmas Giftorium, Australia’s ultimate gift wonderland, where you’ll find something wonderful and special for everyone you love. Everything in the Giftorium has been categorised, making it easy to find something for everyone on your gift list this Christmas. You can explore our Giftorium online here or visit your favourite Myer store to experience the Myer Giftorium with your friends and family.
The Myer Animated Christmas Windows are on display in the Bourke Street Mall every day between 7:30am and 1am, all the way through to Sunday 4 January 2015. If you’re making a visit to the Windows this year, share your experience with us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram by adding the hashtag #myerwindows.
